Located just east of the Roman Forum, the huge stone amphitheater called the Colosseum was commissioned around  70-72 A.D. by Emperor Vespasian of the Flavian dynasty as a present to the Roman people. In A.D. 80, Titus the son of  Vespasian  opened the Colosseum–officially called the Flavian Amphitheater–with a hundred days of games, including belligerent combats and wild animal fights. once four centuries of active use, the glorious arena fell into neglect, and up till the eighteenth century it had been used as a source of building materials. although two-thirds of the first Colosseum has been destroyed over time, the amphitheater still a chosen holidaymaker destination, in addition as an iconic symbol of Rome and its long, violent history.

ORIGINS OF THE Colosseum
